Jazan's Tropical Fruit Production Reaches New Height

Jazan's Tropical Fruit Production Reaches New Height

Every year since 2005 between the end of April and the beginning of May, Jazan celebrates the annual Mango Festival. The mango is considered one of the most important tropical fruit products in Jazan with a production of 65,000 tons in 2022 from only 18,000 tons in the first edition of the Mango Festival. According to a report issued by the Saudi Press Agency, the region for the first time numbered 1 million mango trees, a four-fold increase since 2005.

Since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030 in 2016, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) has initiated many programs and projects in the region to improve the agricultural rural sector, improve lifestyle and realize food security in the Kingdom. These projects include the Rehabilitate Agricultural Terraces and Apply Rainwater Harvesting Techniques in the Kingdom's Southwestern Region project and the Coffee Value Chain project with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

Jazan province, located in the country's well-watered southwest, is one of the most promising regions in Saudi Arabia for investment in agriculture, fishing industries, and food processing thanks to a suitable climate and soil, and strategic location. Asides mango, the region produces tropical fruits including pineapples, bananas, guavas and paw-paws.
