The first ship sailed from the port of Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries, heading to the American state of New Orleans, carrying on board more than 37 thousand tons of pig iron, which is the first product of its kind to be manufactured in the Kingdom, and it was produced in Advanced Industries Company for Smelting Works Ltd. (ASIC) factory in the city.
The port of Jazan City for Primary and Downstream industries has enormous potential and advanced technology in logistical transport services, as the city is an important logistical center for trade exchange in the Kingdom. It is considered one of the most modern ports in the region and is distinguished by its geographical location on the international trade corridor through the Red Sea, near Bab al-Mandab and the countries of the Horn of Africa, and on the road to... Chinese maritime silk, and from this location it serves all southern regions, in addition to the countries of the Horn of Africa.
The port’s capacity is about (1.2 million) standard containers annually, and its capacity for general and bulk cargo is about (5 million tons) annually. It is characterized by a draft of 16.5 metres, which enables the port to receive modern “fifth generation” ships with tonnage of up to More than 21 thousand containers, and it is allowed to handle general cargo ships and bulk goods whose loads reach more than 100 thousand tons per ship.
It is noteworthy that one of the most prominent goals of the port is to develop the capabilities of the industrial sector in the Jazan region, target global markets and increase exports to them, invest in natural resources by taking advantage of the distinctive location of the region, and enhance the Kingdom’s position and role in global supply chains.
